Langkawi is an island northwest of Malaysia and is a beautiful tropical island, with incredible beaches and an amazing inland. The island is relatively big in comparison with the Perhentian Islands, but it has a lot of things you definitely must see and do should you have the chance. Langkawi is not very touristic, although it is one of the most beautiful places of Malaysia!
Cable car to the top of Langkawi
First thing to do to get an incredible view and a lifelong experience is riding the cable car to the top of Langkawi. It is a 2,2 kilometer cable car and it will take you to a height of 700 meter. From here you have an amazing panorama from where you can see the whole island. It doesn’t cost much and is worth every cent.
From the top you can also see the big waterfall Seven Wells. When you are down again, you can go to this waterfall, climb a few stairs and enjoy a lovely swim underneath it. From here, you have a beautiful view as well, and you can enjoy it while swimming.
There are many more waterfalls throughout the island, like Temurun and Durian. These two are, next to Seven Wells, the most common waterfalls. But Langkawi has many, many waterfalls to discover.
Langkawi also has a lot of beautiful beaches, like Black Sand Beach (with actual black sand 😉), Pantai Cenang beach (a little busier, but with a lot of water activity’s) and Tanjung Rhu (a beautiful, deserted island in the north). I have seen all of these beaches and I still can’t decide which I like best. Next to these three beaches, there are many more on Langkawi, and all of them are beautiful.
There is more to see and do on this island, but I think It is more fun to find this out by yourself, just like I did. The things above are my personal highlights, but you will see for yourself that you don’t want to miss these. My personal advice to see everything Langkawi has to offer: rent a motorbike and discover everything by yourself. It is cheap, fun, and you wouldn’t have to miss anything!
