Taman Negara is the jungle of Malaysia and only 4 hours from Kuala Lumpur. The Taman Negara is the biggest and oldest rainforest in Malaysia. It is also the oldest rainforest in the world! The Taman Negara is a national park in Malaysia and that’s where it got his name from; Taman Negara means ‘National Park’ in Malaysian. It is also very easy to travel to the Cameron Highlands or the Perhentian Islands from here.
The Taman Negara is one of the best places for an awesome jungle experience. At the entrance, there are plenty of different accommodations, with lots of variety. You can choose between luxurious resorts to simple lodges.
Activities and highlights
There are several things to do in the park. You can go for a walk, go fishing, take a boat trip on one of the many rivers, go on a night walk, walk the canopy walkway or do a multiple day trekking. The Taman Negara is known for his many rivers with a lot of fish and the incredible wildlife you can spot in the jungle. If you’re going for a few days, you’ll mostly hike on the standard routes. But this is already very amazing and totally worth the experience. You can also go on a multiple day trekking with a guide and by this you’ll see amazing things!
One of the many highlights of the Taman Negara is the canopy walk. This is a walking bridge at a height of 45 meter, with an enormous length of 500 meter. You’ll have an amazing view from here, you can spot wildlife and you’ll feel yourself a little king of the jungle 😉
Wildlife in Taman Negara
Some of the wildlife you can spot are boars, a lot of different kind of monkies and birds. If you’re a little bit more lucky, you’ll spot tapirs, elephants, bears, tigers and rhinos. It is rare, but it happens to some lucky travelers!
Just one big important thing you should definitely not forget is to bring plenty of DEET. There is no malaria in this area, but there are a lot of bugs and mosquitos in the jungle and you don’t want to spend this adventure by scratching all the time 😉.
