When I was 14 years old, I went to Las Vegas for the first time. At that time I wasn’t allowed to gamble, to drink or to watch my parents play. I wasn’t able to experience the real Vegas. That’s why I have decided to go back when I was old enough. When I had the opportunity to celebrate my 21st birthday in Las Vegas, I booked my flight immediately.
Turning 21 is not as special in The Netherlands as turning 21 is in America. In America you have the legal right to drink and gamble at the age of 21. But in the Netherlands you have these legal rights already when you become 18 years old. In America most teens can hardly wait for that birthday, that’s why I wanted to celebrate my 21st birthday in Las Vegas and feel as special as they do.
A few days before I turned 21, I flew to the United States. When I arrived in Los Angeles I wasn’t allowed to drink. After three days I turned 21 and it was absolutely amazing, I enjoyed every moment of it. When I wanted to order a cocktail, I had to show my ID. The guy mentioned that it was my birthday and gave the drink for free.
I got lots of stuff for free on my birthday. The only thing I needed to do is to show my ID everywhere. In restaurants I got free meals, in clubs I got free drinks and in the casino I got free chips to gamble with. I can recommend celebrating a birthday in Las Vegas to everyone. It is very special to celebrate it in such an incredible city. Vegas was the best 21st birthday gift I gave myself!
And… if you’re very lucky you’re not only becoming a year older but also a millionaire!
